HOW TO USE RIDESHARE CONNECTION
New to this website or to searching for carpool matches? Here’s a step-by-step look at how it works.
STEP 1. Get registered
Click “sign in or register” on the top right hand side of RideShare Connection to begin the registration process. Enter the requested information, read and accept the terms of service, and then click "Continue."
Complete the brief registration survey and click "Save."
Select your employer from the drop-down list. If your employer is not listed, select “employer not listed.” Click "Save."
Enter your home address. (Note: This address will not be visible to other users; it is only used to help find matches and set a commute route).
To enable the system to find matches for you, you will need to set a commute profile. Based on the information you enter, your commute route will be plotted on the map. You can click on the route to change it. (Note: This site uses Google Maps.)
STEP 2. Set up your profile
Does your schedule change depending on the day of the week? You can enter multiple commutes on your profile, but one commute can be designated as your default.
You also need to make your account public if you want to show up on others’ match lists. If you do not want to show up on match lists, then unclick the box that says “Is Public."
Click on the schedule tab to enter your work hours. If you work several different schedules, you can use the advanced tab or even create a separate commute profile for the other schedules.
Your public profile can include a photo of yourself and links to a personal website, your Facebook or LinkedIn accounts. You can also make your profile public or hide it. On My Page, click “Public Profile” to make any changes.
Here are the items you can edit in your profile.
The social networking tab enables you to add the links to your personal website, Facebook and/or LinkedIn accounts.
STEP 3. Find matches
Once you have your account created, or you log onto your existing account, this is what My Page will look like. Click “Find RideShare matches” if you want to look for carpool matches. You can email potential matches confidentially through this website using a template that is already set up.
The “Commute Calendar” will take you to the calendar to log your commutes.
STEP 4. Track your commute
To log a commute, select the trip type from the drop-down list, make sure the distance is correct, and then drag and drop the mode you used to the day you are logging a trip.
You can also see a summary of emissions prevented, mileage reduced, calories burned and money saved through logging your alternative commute trips.
